The Xinyou XY-168 Mini Bio Sponge Filter for Nano Tanks
The Xinyou XY-168 is a compact sponge filter built for small setups, running off an air pump to draw water through foam that doubles as mechanical and biological media. We point first-time keepers and shrimp hobbyists toward this size constantly: it is gentle, cheap to run, and the broad sponge surface hosts the beneficial bacteria that keep ammonia and nitrite in check. There is nothing to trap baby shrimp or fry, which makes it ideal for breeding boxes and nursery tanks.
For Singapore homes, the low wattage matters, since it draws power only through a small air pump rather than a motor, and the gentle bubbling adds oxygen that warm 27-29C water badly needs. Squeeze the sponge out in old tank water during water changes rather than tap, so you keep your bacterial colony alive. Soak a new sponge before first use to help it sink and settle.
See the full range under filtration & aquarium equipment, and read our sponge filter guide. New tanks should follow our nitrogen cycle for beginners first.
