Using ANS Freeze Dried Krill as a treat in your tank

Freeze-dried krill is a high-value treat rather than a staple, prized for natural astaxanthin and other carotenoids that help maintain colour in both freshwater and marine fish. Rapid freeze-drying locks in much of the protein, vitamins and fatty acids of fresh krill while giving you a clean, shelf-stable feed with none of the mess or disease risk of live food. We feed it to coax shy fish into the open and to add variety for shrimp, crabs, lobsters, turtles and reptiles.

Because the pieces are dry and light they float and can be gulped with air, so we soak them in tank water for a minute first, which also softens them for smaller mouths. Offer krill a couple of times a week alongside a balanced staple, not as the whole diet. In our humidity, reseal the tub tightly and keep it dry so the krill stays crisp rather than turning soft and clumping.
