Running the JUWEL Helialux Spectrum over a planted tank
The Helialux Spectrum is a full-spectrum LED unit designed to drop straight onto JUWEL tank rails, which makes it a tidy upgrade for anyone already running a Rio or Lido here. The broad spectrum supports plant growth while bringing out fish colour, and paired with the optional controller you can ramp sunrise and sunset and run a midday peak. For Singapore aquascapers, that timed ramp is handy for keeping algae in check in our warm, brightly lit flats.
Light duration matters more than raw intensity for avoiding algae, so we usually suggest starting around 6-7 hours and adjusting from there rather than blasting a long photoperiod. Because our tanks already sit warm at 27-29C, good lid ventilation under the light helps shed heat. If you’re pushing demanding carpet plants you’ll still want CO2 to match the light; otherwise dial the intensity down for a stable low-tech scape that won’t outgrow its nutrients.
Explore matching gear in our JUWEL aquariums range, and read our lighting duration guide and low-light no-CO2 guide to set your photoperiod.
