Growing Alternanthera Betzickiana ‘Green’ in SG aquascapes
This green Alternanthera is a fast, bushy stem plant that brings soft leaf texture and pale-green contrast to a midground or background grouping. Plant the stems individually with tweezers, spacing them so light reaches the lower leaves, and they will branch out into a full thicket. As an active grower it draws down nitrate as it goes, which helps keep water clean in a planted community tank.
In Singapore tanks at 27-29C it grows readily, and like most stems it rewards good light and added CO2 with denser, more compact growth. Trim the tops regularly and replant the cuttings to thicken the stand; without trimming it will race for the surface. Our soft, slightly acidic tap water suits it, so most keepers can plant straight into an established tank after a gentle acclimation and a check for melt in the first week.
