Growing Epipremnum Money Plant on Your Aquarium

The Money Plant, or Epipremnum aureum, is a firm favourite among Singapore keepers as a hang-on, emersed plant rather than a fully submerged one. Its roots dangle into the water while the leaves grow out in the open air, and in that arrangement it draws nitrates and other dissolved wastes straight from the water column. For anyone fighting algae or persistently high nitrate readings, that natural filtration is a genuinely useful, low-effort tool.

It thrives in our warm, humid conditions and asks very little: keep only the roots wet and the foliage dry, position it where it gets ambient or indirect light, and let it trail attractively over the rim of an open-top tank. The dense root mass also offers shelter for shrimp and fry. Just keep the leaves out of the water, since the plant is not meant to be fully submerged, and trim it back when it gets leggy.
