TCulture Begonia ‘Martinis Mystery’ for SG wabi-kusa and paludariums
This Begonia is a delicate, ornamental species best enjoyed for its foliage, and we find it shines in emersed-style displays rather than fully submerged. Singapore’s naturally high humidity is a real advantage here: the moist air that hangs around many homes keeps the leaves turgid and happy in a wabi-kusa bowl, paludarium, or the emersed section of an open-top scape, where it can grow above the waterline with its roots in damp substrate.
Give it a moist, well-aerated rooting medium and bright but indirect light, and keep it out of strong direct flow. Because it is more terrestrial-leaning than the hardy stem plants, treat it as a feature plant for a humid setup rather than a submerged background plant, and avoid letting the crown sit waterlogged. Used alongside mosses and ferns in a humid display, it adds a soft, leafy texture that contrasts nicely with hardscape.
