Dealing With a Pest Snail Outbreak in a Local Tank

Pest snails usually arrive as eggs on new plants, and in Singapore’s warm tanks they breed fast once they have a foothold. A handful of bladder or ramshorn snails is harmless, but an outbreak fuelled by overfeeding can quickly cover glass and hardscape. This targeted treatment lets you knock back the population when manual removal alone is losing the battle, without you having to tear the whole layout apart.

Before you reach for any chemical, address the cause: snail numbers track your leftover food, so tightening feeding is half the solution. When dosing, follow the instructions carefully, remove as many visible snails first, and be cautious in shrimp or sensitive-invert tanks where some snail treatments are not safe. Always check the label against your livestock before adding anything to the water.
