Long description:
Cherry Shrimp are popular freshwater dwarf shrimp known for their bright red coloration and algae-cleaning ability. They are constantly grazing on surfaces for biofilm and leftover food, helping to keep aquariums clean. A planted tank with moss and hiding spaces allows them to feel secure and reproduce successfully. They do best in peaceful community tanks without predatory fish and thrive in stable, mature aquariums.

Keeping Cherry Shrimp in a Singapore Nano Tank
Cherry Shrimp are the ideal entry into the shrimp hobby, and they fit small-footprint HDB and condo setups beautifully. As hardy Neocaridina, they tolerate the moderate-to-hard, slightly alkaline range that suits many local tanks, and they spend their days grazing biofilm and algae off every surface. A mature, planted nano with moss gives them the grazing and cover they need to colour up and breed readily.
The two things that catch local keepers out are copper and parameter swings. Avoid copper-based medications and check that any plant fertiliser is shrimp-safe, since even small amounts can be fatal. Cherries breed best in stable, established water, so resist large sudden changes and acclimatise new arrivals slowly. Our warm ambient temperatures sit toward the upper edge of their comfort, so a shaded spot away from afternoon sun helps.
