Keeping Orange Shrimp in Singapore Tanks
Orange shrimp are a colourful Neocaridina variety and one of the friendliest invertebrates for beginners and busy keepers alike. They graze biofilm and algae constantly, breed readily in a stable tank, and pop beautifully against dark substrate and green plants. Their bright colour also makes them easy to spot, which helps you keep tabs on the colony in a planted Singapore nano on a desk or shelf.
Neocaridina are forgiving of our soft, slightly acidic tap water once it is properly dechlorinated, and they sit comfortably at room temperature, so no heater is usually needed. The two things they cannot tolerate are copper and sudden parameter swings, so go slow on acclimation and avoid copper-based fish medications in a shrimp tank. A drip acclimation over 30-60 minutes greatly improves survival.
Use our drip acclimation kit guide and read up on TDS for shrimp keepers to keep parameters dialled in. Explore more in our shrimp category.
