Description
This miniature version of the well-known Alternanthera is characterized by compact growth and a slower growth rate. It is particularly suitable for small aquariums or as a foreground plant in larger aquascapes. By careful trimming, it is possible to create a dense, red violet carpet of approximately 5 to 10 cm height. High light intensity and addition of CO2 improves the plants growth and overall appearance.
Growing Alternanthera Reineckii ‘Mini’ in Singapore tanks
We stock this tissue-culture cup because it solves a real problem for local hobbyists working in tight HDB and condo spaces: a true red plant that stays low and bushy instead of stretching for the surface. The compact, slow habit means you get that violet-red colour in the front third of a 2-foot tank without constant uprooting, and the in-vitro cup arrives snail-free and ready to split into many small plantlets.
Singapore’s soft, slightly acidic tap water suits AR Mini once it is established, but the red pigment only develops under strong light. Pressurised CO2 makes the difference between leggy green growth and a dense crimson cushion. Expect a melt-back of the original emersed leaves in the first two weeks as it converts to submersed form; this is normal, so resist the urge to pull it. New growth emerging from the base is your signal that it has rooted.
We list more red-plant and lighting tips across our stem plants range, and we recommend reading our Alternanthera Reineckii Mini care guide alongside our notes on fixing melting tissue-culture plants before your first trim.
