Using ANS Naturesand Black Crystal Sand in Your Tank

This black crystal sand gives a dark, sparkling base that makes fish colours and green plants pop, which is why dark substrates are so popular in nature-style scapes. The fine grain mimics a natural riverbed and suits tropical community fish and shrimp, sitting well in the soft, slightly acidic water most Singapore tanks run on. Available in 1kg portions for nano tanks and 5kg for larger layouts, it lets you dose the depth your scape needs.

Rinse it thoroughly before use, swirling and pouring off the cloudy water several times until it runs clear, or your first fill will haze. As an inert sand it will not buffer your water, so your parameters stay where your source water and ferts set them. For corydoras and other bottom feeders, a soft fine sand like this is gentler on barbels than sharp gravel.
