Green Neon tetra looks very similar to the regular Neon Tetra but only reaches about 2 cm in size. They will do better when kept in a small school of 7 or more and in slightly acidic and soft water conditions. Green Neon Tetras are not seen in the trade as often as the regular neons or cardinal tetra. Hobbyists sometimes confuse all three species. They will do great in heavily planted aquariums.

How To Safely Add Fish To Tank

  1. Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.

  3. Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.

Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.

Green Neon Tetra Care for Singapore Nano Tanks

The Green Neon Tetra is the smaller, more delicate cousin of the common Neon, topping out around 2cm with an electric blue-green stripe that almost glows in a shaded, planted scape. It is an intensely social shoaler, so we recommend keeping a sizeable group; the larger the school, the tighter and more dazzling the display. In small numbers they hide and lose colour, so stocking a proper shoal is essential to seeing them at their best.

This is a soft-water blackwater species that genuinely prefers slightly acidic, gently warm conditions, which our naturally soft local tap water suits well once dechlorinated to neutralise chloramine. Ambient SG temperatures of 27 to 29C sit comfortably in its range. Green Neons need a mature, stable tank; they dislike fresh or fluctuating water, so only add them once a tank is fully cycled and settled, ideally over dark substrate with tannin-stained water.
