Neon Tetra fish is one of the most attractive of all the readily available tropical fishes. This tetra has been getting a bad reputation in recent years for the difficulty in keeping them alive in the home aquarium. This bad reputation could be attributed to the increasing public demand and the methods by which breeders are meeting those demands by the inbreeding of this once hardy tropical fish.

How To Safely Add Fish To Tank
- Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.
- Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
- Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.
Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.
Keeping Neon Tetra healthy in Singapore tanks
We sell a lot of Neon Tetra because they suit local community setups perfectly, but the reputation for fragility usually comes down to acclimation rather than the fish itself. Our stock is held in stable, conditioned water before it leaves us, so the priority is matching it gently to your tank at home. Float the bag, drip slowly over 30 to 45 minutes, and avoid dumping store water straight into your display where parameters may differ.
Neons are shoaling fish and look washed out and nervous in small numbers, so we always suggest a group of at least eight to ten. Singapore tap water tends to be soft and slightly acidic, which actually suits them well once dechlorinated for chloramine. Ambient room temperatures around 27 to 29C are within their comfortable range, meaning most HDB and condo tanks need no heater at all to keep this species settled and colourful.
Browse our other tetra fish for tankmates, and read our neon tetra care guide before stocking. If your tank is newly set up, follow our nitrogen cycle guide and our drip acclimation kit guide first.
