Echinodorus ‘Rose’ Xl
Large motherplant, grown in a 9 cm square pot.
This beautiful plant is a hybrid between Echinodorus horemanii ‘Red’ and Echinodorus horizontalis.
It was first produced in 1986 by Hans Barth in Dessau and becomes 25-40 cm tall and a rosette from 15-25 cm wide.
New underwater leaves are a beautiful pink, and initially the leaves have red-brown spots.
A nutritious bottom promotes growth, but otherwise Echinodorus ‘Rosé’ is undemanding and thus an excellent plant for beginners.

Tropica Echinodorus ‘Rose’ XL as an instant SG centrepiece
This XL grade is a large mother plant grown in a 9cm pot, so you get an immediate background centrepiece rather than waiting months for a small plant to fill in. The new underwater leaves come through a beautiful pink, often spotted red-brown at first, and ‘Rose’ is genuinely undemanding, which makes the XL size a popular choice for our customers setting up a feature tank who want impact from day one.
Because it can reach 25-40cm, give it room in a taller tank; in a shallow nano it will quickly outgrow the space. As a heavy root feeder it appreciates a nutritious substrate, so add root tabs near the crown and plant that crown above the soil line to avoid rot. Our warm 27-29C water and soft local tap suit it, and good light helps hold the pink-and-spotted new growth.
See more feature plants in our background plants category. For substrate feeding read our root tabs guide, and our Echinodorus bleheri care guide and sword-plant aquascape guide cover placement of large swords.
