Caring for Homalomena Sp Sulawesi Red in SG Aquascapes
This Sulawesi-origin Homalomena is prized for its warm red foliage and compact, clumping habit, making it a handsome midground accent in nature-style and biotope layouts. We rate it as a low-fuss aroid: it grows slowly, asks little of your lighting, and copes happily with Singapore’s ambient 27-29C without a chiller. Anchor it to driftwood or stone so the rhizome sits proud of the substrate.
Our soft, slightly acidic tap water suits it well, though we always condition for chloramine before planting. CO2 is optional but encourages denser leaves and richer red pigment; under low light expect steadier, smaller growth. Avoid burying the rhizome, divide clumps once they crowd, and tuck it where flow is gentle. A weekly liquid fertiliser dose keeps colour and root development on track.
Expect minor leaf melt during the first weeks as it converts to your conditions, which is normal. Explore the rest of our live plants selection, and pair this read with our low-light ferns and aroids aquascape guide and driftwood-and-moss layout ideas.
