Pilea Silver for Paludariums and Wabi-Kusa
Pilea Silver is a marsh-loving plant best treated as an emersed or paludarium species rather than a fully submerged stem. In our experience it performs beautifully along the damp margins of a paludarium, on wabi-kusa mounds, or in the humid upper section of a riparium where its silvered foliage stays crisp. Kept truly underwater long-term it tends to weaken, so we recommend planting it where the roots stay wet but the leaves breathe.
Singapore’s natural humidity is an advantage here, especially in covered tanks where condensation keeps emersed foliage turgid. Give it bright, indirect light, a moist soil or aquasoil margin, and steady airflow to discourage mould. It pairs well with mosses and other terrestrial accents, drawing up nitrates through its roots and softening the transition between water and hardscape in a layered scape.
