Rotala Macrandra ‘Pearl’ Care Notes for Singapore
Rotala macrandra ‘Pearl’ is prized for its softer pinkish tones that sit between the green stems and the deep reds, giving an aquascape a gradient of colour rather than a single block. It is still a true macrandra, so we class it as a high-tech plant: strong light, pressurised CO2, and steady water-column nutrients are what bring out the pearly hues. Without them it reverts to a plainer green and drops its lower leaves.
The Singapore reality is heat. Our 27-29C ambient is warmer than macrandra ideally likes, which can mute the colour and slow the plant, so the keepers who get the best ‘Pearl’ here tend to run a chiller. Plant our emersed-grown pots with spacing, expect a pale conversion period, and keep your dosing and CO2 absolutely consistent day to day. Frequent top-and-replant trimming keeps the canopy full and the colour where the light hits it.
