Rotala Rotundifolia Colorata Tissue Culture for SG Scapes
Colorata is the warm-toned form of the familiar rotundifolia, prized for the orange-to-pink flush it develops at the tips under good light. Buying it as a tissue-culture cup means a clean, snail-free, algae-free start grown in nutrient gel rather than soil. Rinse the gel off thoroughly with dechlorinated water, then separate the cup into many small portions and tweezer them in. They look tiny at first but bush out fast once they convert to submerged growth.
This is a forgiving stem that grows well even in moderate setups, though the strongest colour comes with bright light, CO2 and consistent dosing. In Singapore’s warm 27-29C tanks, keep flow steady and parameters stable while the plantlets establish. Expect a little transition melt on lab-grown tissue; trim it away and the new submerged shoots will come in healthy and dense, ideal for filling a background or massing as a colourful midground accent.
