The Red Swordtail in a Singapore Community Tank
The Red Swordtail is a hardy, active livebearer prized for its vivid colour and the distinctive sword on the male’s tail. It is one of the more forgiving fish we sell, which makes it a good choice for newer Singapore hobbyists building a first community tank. Swordtails are lively swimmers and appreciate length to cruise, so a longer tank suits them better than a tall nano in an HDB corner.
They breed readily as livebearers, so a mixed-sex group will soon produce fry; keep more females than males to spread male attention. Our soft, slightly acidic tap water is on the low side of their preference, so steady parameters matter more than perfection. Ambient 27-29C is comfortable and most keepers run them heaterless, with feeding kept light to protect water quality.
