Common Name: Ozelot Green Sword
Ozelot Green Swords are a colorful and bold plant perfect for mid- or background accents. They are similar to the regular Ozelot Swords but the leaves are a bit broader and the growth is more compact compared to the tall thin stalks of the regular. They are sold in green and red variations, with the red having wavy leaves and brightly colored spots. Red Ozelot sword plants can display a range of colors from red, pink, and gold to green or dark green. Ozelot sword plants can grow emersed or submerged, with emersed plants sometimes producing small white flowers above the surface. These plants were created from a hybrid of E. schlueteri ‘Leopard’ and E. barthii plants.
Ozelot sword plants are not picky when it comes to water parameters, but they do need good, nutrient-rich soil in order to thrive. CO2 injection is not necessary for these plants. Moderate light will keep Ozelet swords sprouting new leaves weekly, but the plant will do fine under a range of lighting conditions.
Ozelot swords propagate through side shoots that grow off of leaves. These can be removed and replanted if desired, or removed and discarded to control the spread of the plant.
Notes:

Echinodorus is a very hardy species of aquatic plants. Most Echinodorus require nutrient-dense soil to thrive as they are heavy root feeders.

Echinodorus grow fairly large and are more suitable for larger planted aquariums.

Do not make drastic changes to the aquarium. Unstable parameters will result in melt and rotting of the aquarium plant.

The Ozelot Green Sword is a bold, broad-leaved Echinodorus that makes a confident mid-ground or background centrepiece, with a more compact, full-leaved habit than the tall, thin regular swords. It is an easygoing rosette plant that suits Singapore community tanks, sending up generous foliage that gives a planted display instant maturity and depth. One specimen can fill a surprising amount of space.

Swords are heavy root feeders, so plant the crown just above the substrate and tuck a root tab beneath it, especially in inert gravel or sand. It tolerates a wide range and copes well with our warm 27-29C tanks, growing steadily even without CO2 in a low-tech setup. Trim older outer leaves as they age to keep the rosette looking fresh, and give it space, as a mature sword will spread its leaves wider than newcomers expect.
