Using Caladium Hybrid in SG Paludariums and Wabi-Kusa

Our Caladium Hybrid is best understood as a terrestrial-to-emersed foliage plant rather than something to bury fully underwater. Submerged long-term, the soft leaves tend to rot, so we steer Singapore hobbyists toward emersed planting where the tuber sits in damp substrate and the heart-shaped leaves rise into the air. In our local climate, with ambient temperatures around 27-29C and high humidity year-round, Caladium pushes vigorous new growth with very little fuss, which is a genuine advantage SG growers have over cooler regions.

Give it bright indirect light, keep the root zone moist but not flooded, and let the foliage sit above the waterline of a paludarium, riparium shelf, or open bowl. The colour variation across hybrid forms makes each plant a little different, so it works well as an accent rather than a mass planting. If your setup runs under air-con, a light daily misting keeps the leaves from crisping at the edges.
