Cystorchis Javanica Brown for Singapore Aquascapes
This is a striking jewel orchid type prized for its dark, velvety brown leaves with fine venation, used in planted tanks and especially in paludariums and wabi-kusa where its foliage can be appreciated up close. Note that it is fundamentally a high-humidity terrestrial plant rather than a true submerged aquatic, so we get the best long-term results growing it emersed in damp, shaded conditions. Singapore’s naturally high humidity actually works in your favour here.
In a paludarium or riparium margin, plant it into a moist, airy substrate with the roots anchored and the crown kept above the waterline. It prefers low, diffused light, as direct intense lighting can scorch the delicate leaves. Keep airflow gentle and humidity high, and mist as needed. Fully submerged for long periods, it tends to decline, so reserve it for emersed sections rather than open-water aquascapes.
See our emersed section guide and paludarium setup guide for the right environment, and explore more foliage in our stem plants range.
