Echinodorus Palifolius for Open Tanks and Paludariums in Singapore
Echinodorus palifolius is a very easy, fast-growing sword that really shines as a semi-emersed plant in open-top tanks and paludariums. Its bold leaves push above the waterline to create a lush, jungle-like canopy, which makes it a favourite for riparium-style scapes. It handles a wide temperature range and is perfectly suited to Singapore’s warm 27-29C conditions, growing strongly year-round given enough light and root nutrition.
Because it grows quickly and gets large, plan for the space and give it a deep, nutrient-rich substrate with root tabs to feed that vigorous root system. Plant the crown at substrate level and let it transition; emersed leaves develop a slightly different look from submerged ones. In an open setup, our high ambient humidity helps the emersed foliage stay healthy. Trim and remove spent leaves to manage its size and keep the display neat.
See our emersed section guide and root tabs guide for semi-emersed setups, and browse more in our background live plants range.
