Keeping Echinodorus Yellow Sun in Local Aquascapes
The warm chartreuse leaves of Yellow Sun give us an easy way to break up a wall of green background plants, and that contrast reads beautifully under the bright LED units common in Singapore display tanks. We find it grows large over time, so it earns its keep as a focal corner specimen in a three-foot or larger setup rather than a nano. Expect bold, paddle-shaped foliage once the roots establish.
Like other swords it draws most of its nutrition through the roots, so a rich aquasoil or a few root tabs matters far more than heavy liquid dosing. Our ambient water temperatures suit it without a heater, and it copes with the soft tap water locals use after conditioning. New leaves emerge a touch pale and yellow before firming up, which is normal and part of the plant’s charm rather than a deficiency.
