The Jewel Nephelaphyllum in SG Vivariums
We stock the Nephelaphyllum jewel orchid for hobbyists building humid emersed displays rather than submerged aquariums. It is a terrestrial Southeast Asian orchid grown for patterned, low-spreading foliage, so it belongs on the moist floor of a paludarium or terrarium where its creeping rhizome can hug the substrate. In Singapore’s naturally humid climate it settles in well, though we recommend a covered enclosure to buffer the drying effect of household air-conditioning on the leaves.
Give it an airy, free-draining mix kept evenly damp, gentle filtered light, and steady warmth around our typical 27-29C indoor range, which suits it without any chiller. Avoid letting the crown sit waterlogged, as jewel orchids resent constant flooding at the base. We dechlorinate tap water before misting, and many growers switch to RO or collected rainwater once the plant is rooted and pushing fresh growth.
