For a long time, this name was used for the Red Milfoil (Myriophyllum tuberculatum) until true green Myriophyllum mattogrossense was imported into Germany from Ecuador. Very decorative light green milfoil popular in aquascaping. M. mattogrossense needs a good nutrient supply.

Myriophyllum Mattogrossense for Lush SG Backgrounds
This light-green milfoil is a favourite of ours for filling a background quickly with soft, finely divided foliage. Its airy, well-branched form lends an instant sense of movement and depth, which works beautifully in the nature and jungle styles popular among Singapore aquascapers. As a fast grower it also pulls excess nutrients from the water, helping keep a young tank in balance during the algae-prone first weeks.
Mattogrossense rewards a good nutrient supply, so pair it with regular dosing and reasonable light to keep the feathery whorls dense rather than leggy. It tolerates the warm temperatures of our local tanks well, sitting comfortably in the 27-29C range that most heaterless SG setups run at. CO2 is not essential but noticeably tightens growth and intensifies the fresh green tone.
Because it grows fast, plan on frequent trimming and replant the healthiest tops to maintain a tidy hedge. See our Mattogrossense guide and how to trim aquarium plants, and find more in our background plants range.
