Description

Leptodictyum riparium is a slender, upright moss that tolerates both high and low temperatures. Leptodictyum riparium is often called “stringy moss” and is found throughout most of the world, but is thought to have originated in Europe. It has an intense, slightly transparent green colour. An undemanding and easy moss that can adhere to rocks and tree roots in the aquarium. Growth is both vigorous and rapid, so regular trimming is required.
A generally good plant for beginners who want a unique effect in the aquarium. The moss is popular in nano aquariums, and often used as brood care and cover.

1-2-GROW!

Small plants with great success. 1•2•Grow! Are very young plants cultivated and delivered directly from our laboratory. The plants are guaranteed to be free from snails, algae and pesticides and therefore are totally harmless for sensitive shrimp and fish. The range offers unique plants!
Success with your aquarium depends largely on the proper plant choice. In a 1•2•Grow! cup you buy a myriad of plants which can be divided into small portions and cover a larger area. Plants are compact from the start so you will experience a dense and beautiful growth, if you give them the right fertiliser and CO2 from the start! The range is perfect for small and medium sized aquariums, and your patience will be rewarded…
The range offers several mosses and specialties such as Rotala macrandra, Rotala ‘Bonsai’ and mini versions of traditional varieties such as Alternanthera and Eleocharis.
See our video about how to handle these plants here or read below:

Carefully take the plant out of the cup and rinse off the growing media under the tap.

Split the plant in 6-8 portions using your fingers or sharp scissors (for small foreground plants).

Plant portions into the substrate using tweezers. Then watch them grow!

Leptodictyum riparium (stringy moss) in Singapore tanks

Stringy moss is one of the more heat-tolerant mosses we stock, which makes it a sensible pick for unchilled Singapore tanks sitting at 27-29C where some delicate mosses sulk. Delivered as a clean 1-2-Grow! cup, it comes free of the snails and algae that plague imported portions. We tease it apart, spread it thinly over rock or wood, and tie or glue it down; once anchored it sends out its slightly transparent, intense-green strands.

It is a genuinely beginner-friendly moss with vigorous, rapid growth, so the main job is trimming. Left unchecked it gets shaggy and traps detritus, so we scissor it back regularly and rinse out the clippings. It is popular in nano scapes and works well as cover for fry or shrimp, since the dense tangle gives them somewhere to hide. Good flow over the moss keeps it clean in our warm water.

See our wider epiphytes range for more attach-anywhere plants. For setup, read our guide on attaching moss to driftwood and our overview of aquarium moss types compared.
