Description

Nymphoides hydrophylla ‘Taiwan’ grows in Asia and Africa – and this variant of the species originates from southern Taiwan.

The rosette plant can become 15-30 cm tall and 10-15 cm wide. This variant is characterised by many underwater leaves and the intense, light-green, transparent colour of the plant. The plant is fast-growing and it is necessary to thin out the leaves (remove oldest leaves and surface leaves).
The plant is easy to care for under varying conditions, but for optimal growth it requires a lot of nourishment. The new plant grows from the plates of old leaves.

1-2-GROW!
Small plants with great success. 1•2•Grow! Are very young plants cultivated and delivered directly from our laboratory. The plants are guaranteed to be free from snails, algae and pesticides and therefore are totally harmless for sensitive shrimp and fish. The range offers unique plants!
Success with your aquarium depends largely on the proper plant choice. In a 1•2•Grow! cup you buy a myriad of plants which can be divided into small portions and cover a larger area. Plants are compact from the start so you will experience a dense and beautiful growth, if you give them the right fertiliser and CO2 from the start! The range is perfect for small and medium sized aquariums, and your patience will be rewarded…
The range offers several mosses and specialties such as Rotala macrandra, Rotala ‘Bonsai’ and mini versions of traditional varieties such as Alternanthera and Eleocharis.
See our video about how to handle these plants here or read below.

Carefully take the plant out of the cup and rinse off the growing media under the tap.

Split the plant in 6-8 portions using your fingers or sharp scissors (for small foreground plants).

Plant portions into the substrate using tweezers. Then watch them grow!

Nymphoides hydrophylla ‘Taiwan’ in Singapore Aquariums

This Taiwan variant of Nymphoides hydrophylla is a rosette plant we like for its translucent, light-green leaves that catch the light beautifully. Growing 15-30cm tall and 10-15cm wide, it produces plenty of underwater leaves and makes an eye-catching mid-ground to background feature in medium and larger SG tanks. A neat bonus is propagation: new plantlets sprout directly from older leaf plates, so a single specimen quickly gives you several.

It is fast-growing and easy across a range of conditions, tolerating our warm 27-29C water without complaint. Because it grows quickly, you will thin it regularly, removing the oldest leaves and any that race to the surface so light keeps reaching the rosette. For the lushest, most translucent foliage it appreciates generous nutrients, so keep your dosing consistent rather than letting the tank run lean.

Browse more feature species in our background plants category for companions. Our plant trimming guide shows how to thin it without harm, and our liquid fertiliser guide will help you keep that translucent foliage looking its best.
