Growing Caladium Ginger Land the Singapore Way
Caladium are tropical aroids, not true submerged aquatics, and that distinction matters a lot in how we use Ginger Land at Gensou. Fully underwater, the leaves will eventually melt back, so we recommend it as an emersed feature: planted with roots in substrate but foliage held above the waterline in a paludarium, riparium, or open-top wabi-kusa arrangement. Singapore’s warm 27-29C air and naturally high humidity are exactly the conditions this plant thrives in, which makes it far easier to keep emersed here than in temperate climates.
Position the rhizome so the growing point stays just above the soil, give it bright but diffused light, and keep the root zone consistently moist rather than waterlogged. The patterned leaves bring colour and structure that aquatic plants rarely match, and they pair beautifully with mosses and ferns along a damp shoreline. Mist regularly if your tank sits under air-conditioning, which dries the air around the foliage.
