Description

Aquarium plant from tissue culture in closed cup.
Eleocharis pusilla has even lower growth than the common Eleocharis parvula and was given to Tropica by Thomas Barr from USA. Plant the mini-version in small portions to cover a large area. In short time, a dense carpet will be obtained. Needs light to perform optimally, however, it is one of the most reliable species for creating a carpet – and a minimum of maintenance since the leaves remain short (3-5 cm). Suitable for nano-aquariums.

Eleocharis acicularis ‘Mini’ (Tropica 1-2-Grow!) for Tight Lawns

The ‘Mini’ hairgrass grows even shorter and denser than common dwarf hairgrass, making it a top pick for a neat, low carpet that does not need constant trimming. Originally passed to Tropica by Thomas Barr, it is one of the most dependable carpeting species we recommend to growers who found other foreground plants frustrating. This tissue-culture cup arrives clean and splits easily into many small planting portions.

Plant in small clumps across the front so the runners can fill the gaps; in short order they weave into a tight, even mat. It needs good light to perform at its best, but it forgives more than fussier carpets. Singapore’s warm 27-29C water suits it with no chiller, and our treated tap water is fine. A nutritious substrate noticeably speeds the spread, so feed the roots well from the start.
