Growing HC Cuba for a Carpet in Singapore

Hemianthus callitrichoides ‘Cuba’ is the gold standard for a fine, low carpet, and the tiny rounded leaves give that signature manicured-lawn finish aquascapers chase. It is rewarding but genuinely demanding, so we steer beginners toward easier carpets first. As a tissue-culture portion it arrives clean and snail-free, which matters locally; you then tease it into many small plugs and dot them across the substrate for even, rapid coverage.

HC really does want bright light and CO2 to stay low and tight; without injected carbon it tends to grow upward and detach. Many local hobbyists get the best start with the dry-start method, growing it emersed in our humid air for a few weeks before flooding so the roots are well anchored. Keep flow gentle at substrate level early on, as loose plugs float away easily before they grip.
