Carpeting With Marsilea crenata (Tissue Culture) in Singapore
Marsilea crenata is one of the gentler carpeting plants we suggest for hobbyists who find dwarf hairgrass or HC Cuba intimidating. Supplied as clean tissue culture, this cup arrives free of snails and algae, which is a real advantage for SG nano-tank keepers starting fresh. It carpets more slowly than some species but is far more tolerant of moderate light, making it a sensible choice for lower-tech setups.
Once submerged, the four-leaf clover form often gives way to single rounded leaves that hug the substrate, creating a tidy low lawn. It will grow without CO2, though injection and steady root feeding noticeably speed up coverage. In our warm 27-29C tanks it stays compact and rarely overshoots, so it suits the small footprints common in HDB and condo aquascapes where space is at a premium.
Divide the cup into small portions and plant them across the foreground for even spread. Read our Marsilea crenata care guide and how to plant carpet plants, and see more options in our foreground plants range.
