Rotala Macrandra Mini Butterfly Tissue Culture in SG

This tissue-culture cup gives you a clean, pest-free, snail-free start, which is exactly what you want for a demanding red stem like Macrandra Mini Butterfly. The plantlets are grown in nutrient gel rather than emersed in soil, so rinse the gel off thoroughly under dechlorinated water before planting. Separate the cup into many small portions and tweezer each one into the substrate; what looks like a tiny start will bush out surprisingly fast once it settles into submerged growth.

Expect some adjustment as the plant transitions from the lab to your tank, and don’t panic at minor melt on older tissue. Stable CO2, strong light and consistent dosing bring out the pink-to-red colouration that makes this variant a centrepiece for nano scapes. In Singapore’s warm 27-29C tanks, keep flow gentle but present, and hold parameters steady rather than chasing numbers, since sudden swings are what usually stall Macrandra.
