Rotala Manipurensis is native to South East Asia, and can be adapted to grow in both emersed and submerged environments. The leaves are narrow and bright green. When grown under high light and with CO2 injections, hues of orange will be appreciated. In ideal environments, Rotala Manipurensis will have a fast growth rate. Due to the growth rate, we recommend using Rotala Manipurensis as a background or midground plant for coverage and depth. Regular trimming will be needed to keep Rotala Manipurensis compact and away from the surface. Trimmings can be replanted as a form of propagation.

Rotala Manipurensis as a Fast Background Plant in SG Tanks

Manipurensis is one of the easier-going Rotala for local hobbyists: it adapts readily, grows quickly and forgives a few mistakes while you dial in your tank. Our potted stems come emersed-grown in rockwool, so rinse the wool off, divide into individual stems and plant them with light spacing across the background. The fine, bright-green leaves knit into a soft wall of growth that adds real depth behind your hardscape within a few weeks.

Under brighter light with CO2, you’ll coax warmer orange hues into the tips; in lower-light setups it stays a clean green and still performs well. That fast growth is a double-edged sweetie in Singapore’s warm tanks, so plan on regular trimming to keep it compact and below the surface. Replant the healthiest cuttings to thicken the stand. As always, dechlorinate top-up water first, since SG mains carry chloramine that can stress fresh transplants.
