Riccia in particular needs holding down, and in Singapore’s warm, brightly lit planted tanks it pearls beautifully once established. The flat shape sits low and spreads easily across the substrate, blending into the layout instead of perching awkwardly like a rounded rock.

Tie a thin layer of Riccia or moss over each stone with cotton thread or fine line, then arrange them edge to edge to knit a continuous green mat. Keep the carpet trimmed, because Riccia grows fast in our warm water and an overgrown clump tends to trap gas, lift, and break free. Spaced placement around hardscape also lets you grow moss exactly where you want texture.
