(FORMERLY CRYPTOCORYNE WENDTII TROPICA)

This brown variation of Cryptocoryne wendtii is also very popular and can be used in a variety of plant landscapes.
The edges of the leaves are slightly wavy and some are bullate.
The leaves are green to brown, sometimes with brown mottling.
In good lighting the leaves turn a deep, dark brown.
Use as a stark contrast in combination with other green water trumpets.
As with almost all Cryptocorynes from Sri Lanka, these grow well in hard water and are therefore ideal for cichlid aquaria.

Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Brown’ for SG planted and cichlid tanks

The brown wendtii is one of the most planted crypts in our shop, and for good reason: it is tough, adaptable, and happy across a wide range of conditions. The wavy-edged leaves deepen to a rich dark brown under good light, giving you a warm contrast against green water trumpets and stem plants. As a Sri Lankan species it copes with harder water, so it doubles as a rare plant option for community and cichlid setups here.

It runs heaterless in our 27-29C tanks and asks little beyond a nutrient substrate and a root tab to feed those active roots. Plant it singly and leave space, as it spreads by runners into a broad clump over a few months. Some leaf melt after transfer is normal while it converts to submerged growth; simply trim the soft outer leaves and let the rosette rebuild itself.
