Description

Crypt lucens is a less common type of crypt that can serve as an ideal foreground or midground plant. The slender leaves are bright green with brown stems and when grown in large groups can resemble tall reeds of thick grass. Like other crypts, this plant is recommended for beginners due to its ease in keeping and low care requirements. If grown in good aquarium substrate such as Controsoil, the plant can feed through the roots and grow quickly without the need for high light, CO2 or fertilizer dosing.

Crypts can be grown emersed or submerged. Propagate by splitting the rhizome or cutting off new growth and replanting

Cryptocoryne Wendtii ‘Tropica’ Care in Singapore

Cryptocoryne Wendtii ‘Tropica’ is one of the most popular crypts in the hobby, forming compact rosettes of bronze-brown, hammered-texture leaves that develop reddish tones under good light. It is an outstanding mid-ground plant for Singapore aquascapers wanting reliable colour and texture without fuss. Hardy and adaptable, it suits everything from low-tech HDB nano cubes to larger community displays, knitting hardscape together with its dense, slightly ruffled foliage that holds its form season after season.

This wendtii variety is a heavy root feeder, so plant it into nutrient-rich aqua soil for the deepest colour and steadiest growth. It thrives without pressurised CO2 under low to moderate light, making it forgiving for beginners. Our 27-29C ambient temperature needs no chiller, and our soft, slightly acidic tap water suits it once dechlorinated. As with all crypts, plant it and leave it be; relocation or sudden parameter swings can cause it to melt back before recovering from the rhizome.
