Description
The triploid form of Cryptocoryne beckettii was originally described as a species on its own, namely Cryptocoryne petchii. However, this beautiful and very widely spread plant, which belongs in the C. wendtii group, is readily available and has been in use in aquaristics for over 60 years.
It is very easy to cultivate, and possesses the typical characteristics of a Cryptocoryne from Sri Lanka. It adapts well to soft as well as to hard water, light is relatively unimportant, even though it grows better under more intensive light. The brown-green rosettes that form soon after the plant is placed in the tank spread quickly and form dense bushes. Nutrient-rich substrates enhance growth. The plant reacts nicely to ample fertilisation and to CO2, but it grows sufficiently well without these components, too. (read more)

Cryptocoryne Beckettii ‘Petchii’ for Singapore beginners
Petchii is a compact member of the wendtii group and one of the easiest crypts we recommend to newcomers. Its brown-green rosettes form quickly after planting and stay small enough for nano and midground use, making it ideal for the space-conscious HDB or condo aquarium. We like it for low-maintenance scapes where a reliable, attractive plant matters more than rapid growth or demanding care.
This crypt is wonderfully adaptable to both soft and hard water, so our slightly acidic Singapore tap water poses no problem once dechlorinated. Light intensity is relatively unimportant, though brighter conditions yield fuller, more colourful leaves. As with all crypts, anticipate some melt as it converts from emersed nursery growth, then steady recovery. Plant it once into nutrient-rich substrate and avoid disturbing the rhizome, and it will reward you for years.
