The ZZ Castle Deco (Green) as a betta and community centrepiece

This green castle piece is a long-time favourite among Singapore hobbyists running betta and small community tanks, and at 27cm long it suits the standard 1- to 2-foot tanks most HDB flats have room for. The arched openings give a betta a defined territory to patrol and a shaded spot to rest its fins, which matters in our bright flats where tanks often sit near a window. Set it so at least one doorway faces the front for a clear viewing line.

Cast in aquarium-safe resin, it stays inert in our naturally warm 27-29C water and needs no special prep beyond a rinse before it goes in. The moulded “stone” texture will gather a thin algae film over time, which many keepers leave for a more weathered, natural look; if you prefer it clean, an old toothbrush and tank water lift it off without chemicals. Avoid bleach, which weakens resin over repeated cleans.
