Hints
The ‚Pinto‘ Anubias is a quirk of nature that has been propagated from a normal green population using selection. The light green variegation can be more or less pronounced, so only the most beautiful plants are propagated further in the production plant. This variety is very slow-growing and requires more light than the original green form. Due to its small size, the ‚Pinto‘ makes an attractive addition to Nano Cubes and can also be used to catch the eye in aquascaping. This new plant creates excellent contrast on black lava rock and on dark coloured roots.
Anubias nana ‘Pinto’ variegated epiphyte
‘Pinto’ is the striking variegated nana, with creamy light-green marbling spreading across the leaves. The degree of variegation varies from plant to plant, which is part of its appeal, and it shows off best against dark hardscape; mounted on black lava rock or dark driftwood the pale patterning really stands out. We recommend it as an eye-catching accent in nano cubes and detailed aquascapes here in SG.
One thing to note: because the variegated tissue carries less chlorophyll, ‘Pinto’ wants a little more light than the plain green nana to keep its growth and colour healthy, while still keeping the rhizome above the substrate. It stays small and slow-growing, suits our warm 27-29C tanks without a chiller, and is otherwise as easy-going as any Anubias on local soft tap water. Steady moderate light is the sweet spot.
See our full epiphytes range, and read the Anubias guide together with our attaching plants to hardscape tutorial for mounting.
