Taxiphyllum ‘Spiky’
Spiky’ is Asiatic and grows 2-10 cm tall. Best described as Christmas moss’ big brother, it is bigger and forms many deep green, branched shoots.
Spiky moss does best on vertical surfaces where the branched shoots will show.
A beautiful carpeting effect is possible if you plant small tufts into the bottom substrate with a small interspace.
It grows fast and thrives at a very low light intensity.

Spiky Moss: A Bold, Fast Moss for SG Tanks
Spiky moss is the larger, more assertive cousin of Christmas moss, forming many deep-green, branched shoots that show off beautifully on vertical surfaces. We often suggest it to hobbyists who found finer mosses too slow or too subtle, because it grows faster and reads as a fuller, more textured green even from across the room. Attached to a moss wall or the side of a rock, those branched shoots create real depth in a layout.
You can also dab small tufts into the substrate with a little spacing to get a carpeting effect over time. It is genuinely undemanding and thrives at low light, so it suits low-tech HDB tanks without strong lighting or CO2. In our warm 27-29C tanks it grows quickly enough that periodic trimming keeps it neat. Supplied as a clean tissue-cultured portion, it arrives free of pest snails and nuisance algae.
