Taxiphyllum ‘Spiky’ moss for textured scapes

Spiky moss grows in dense, pointed shoots that give a sharper, more defined look than the soft cushions of common java moss. We reach for it when a scape needs crisp texture on driftwood or rockwork, as its tidy growth holds its shape between trims rather than turning into a shapeless tangle. It is an easygoing epiphyte, happy under low to moderate light and content without CO2, though added carbon tightens the growth.

This is a tissue-culture portion, so it comes free of nuisance algae and hitchhiking snails, ready to tie or glue straight onto your hardscape. Attach thin layers and let it fill in; a light trim keeps it compact and encourages fresh, denser shoots. In Singapore’s ambient warmth it needs no heater, and shrimp keepers value it as a grazing and hiding surface for shrimplets and small fry.

Browse the full epiphytes range for hardscape planting, and consult our spiky moss care guide and moss types compared to choose between varieties.
