ANS Bamboo Carbon 120g for Cleaner Aquarium Water

This bagged activated carbon adsorbs dissolved organics, discolouration and odours, polishing water to a sharp clarity that bare biological media cannot achieve. It also helps strip chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals, which makes it a sensible addition right after a water change. Because it comes pre-bagged, you simply rinse it for a minute or two and drop it into a filter tray or hang-on chamber, with no measuring or loose granules escaping into the flow.

Singapore’s tap water is chloraminated, so the chloramine adsorption is a real bonus, though we always recommend a proper dechlorinator as your first line of defence rather than relying on carbon alone. The tannin and odour removal also suits our driftwood-heavy aquascapes and warm 27-29C tanks, where biofilm and faint smells develop quickly in still HDB air. Plan to swap the carbon roughly every two months, since spent carbon stops adsorbing and simply becomes extra biological surface once exhausted.
