Coral chip is one of the simplest ways to lift pH and add carbonate hardness, which matters here because Singapore tap water tends to run soft and slightly acidic out of the tap. We reach for it most often for African cichlids, livebearers, and brackish setups, or for anyone whose pH keeps sliding down between water changes. The medium grade sits well in a media bag inside a canister, sump, or hang-on filter where flow passes steadily across the chips.
It dissolves slowly, so the effect is gradual rather than a sudden swing, which is exactly what you want for fish health. Rinse before use to clear loose dust. Over months the chips erode and lose potency, so check and top up periodically. Keep it out of soft-water shrimp or blackwater tanks, where added hardness works against the species you are keeping.
