The XY D3 Filter Net for DIY Media Bags

The XY D3 filter net is a simple 25x30cm mesh sheet with a 4mm hole pattern, and it is one of those quietly useful odds-and-ends we keep on hand. Keepers use it to make custom media bags, to hold ceramic rings or bio-balls in a sump tray, or as a coarse pre-screen to stop large debris reaching finer media. The open 4mm weave lets water flow freely while keeping bulky media contained and easy to lift out for rinsing.

For Singapore tanks, a coarse mesh like this earns its place in warm water that pushes a lot of waste through the system. Cut a bag to fit your filter chamber, fill it with the media of your choice, and you can lift, rinse and reseat it during water changes without dismantling everything. Rinse media in old tank water to preserve beneficial bacteria, and check the mesh for fraying over time.
