This XY-1832 wool pad is mechanical filtration, the first stage that physically traps the fine particulate, fish waste, and uneaten food clouding your water. Cut to size, it slots into a canister tray, a sump baffle, or the top of a hang-on filter so water passes through the wool before it reaches your biological media. Keeping it ahead of the ceramic and sponge stages stops gunk from clogging the media that houses your beneficial bacteria.

In Singapore’s warm water, biological loads build quickly, so we treat wool as a consumable. Rinse it in old tank water when flow slows, and replace it once it stays grey and matted rather than scrubbing it indefinitely. A clean wool layer also helps polish the water to that crisp, gin-clear look aquascapers want for photos, without you reaching for chemical clarifiers.
