The ANS R-Flo Inlet 17mm Explained

This is the 17mm-bore version of the R-Flo intake, sized to suit the thicker tubing common on mid-to-larger canister filters. The wider pipe moves more water with less restriction, which suits a densely planted display or a longer tank where you want strong, even circulation rather than dead spots. The strainer slots feed your filter steadily while keeping leaves and larger debris from reaching the impeller and causing that familiar rattle.

Before buying, confirm your canister actually runs 17mm hose, since mixing sizes forces you into reducers that leak air and drop flow. In Singapore’s warmth, warming the hose end in hot water makes seating it onto the pipe far easier and reduces the chance of a hairline crack. Position the intake low on the tank wall, away from the outlet, so you pull settled muck rather than short-circuiting clean water straight back to the filter.
