Setting up the Hailea RP internal filter in small tanks
The RP series is a compact internal filter sized for tanks roughly between 50 and 100 litres at the small end, scaling up through the RP400 and RP500 for larger volumes. It combines mechanical, biological and chemical stages in one submerged unit, which keeps your cabinet clear and is ideal for a nano or a second tank where a full canister would be overkill. The reinforced ABS body and resin-sealed wiring stand up to constant immersion in our warm water.
The sponge is where your beneficial bacteria live, so treat it gently: rinse it in old tank water rather than under the tap, which is chlorinated here and will set back your colony. The activated carbon cartridge is the part to refresh on schedule, since spent carbon stops adsorbing and just becomes more surface to trap waste. Position the outlet to ripple the surface for gas exchange, which matters more in Singapore’s warm, lower-oxygen water.
