SHIRUBA inlet sponge for PF and XB filters

An inlet sponge is one of those small upgrades that earns its place fast, slipping over your filter intake to stop fry, shrimp and shrimplets being sucked in while adding a layer of mechanical pre-filtration. The S size fits PF-60 and PF-120 intakes, while the M suits the larger PF and XB models, so you can match it to your exact unit. By catching debris at the intake, it keeps the main filter cleaner for longer and protects the impeller from gunk.

In Singapore shrimp and breeding tanks, an intake guard is close to essential, since our warm water encourages prolific breeding and tiny shrimplets vanish into an unguarded pipe. The sponge surface also colonises with beneficial bacteria, adding a little biological capacity. We suggest rinsing it in old tank water during water changes rather than tap, so you don’t kill off that bacterial colony with our chloraminated supply.
