The UP Aqua D-760 Mini Pneumatic Filter for Small Tanks

This air-driven mini filter is a quiet workhorse for the small tanks that suit Singapore homes, running off an air pump to pull water through its media while gently circulating and oxygenating the tank. Because it creates flow without a motor in the water, it stays gentle enough for shrimp tanks and fry boxes where a strong intake would be a hazard, and the media surface becomes a home for the nitrifying bacteria that keep ammonia and nitrite in check.

We often recommend air-driven filters for nano breeding and quarantine tanks here, partly because they keep running on a battery-backed air pump during our monsoon-season power cuts when mains-powered filters stop. The extra surface agitation also helps, since warm 27-29C SG water holds less dissolved oxygen and benefits from the gas exchange this filter provides. Squeeze the sponge or media in old tank water during water changes to preserve the bacteria colony.
